Sketching  triangles with specific side measurements

Objective:

Sketch a triangle with the following sides:

  AB= 5 cm, BC=5 cm 

 

 

1.- Draw a line segment of  5 cm.

 

 

2.- Open the compass 6 cm long.

    - Place the tip of the compass at point B,

      and draw an arc as shown in the

      second figure in this step. 

 

 

 

 

 

3.- Open the compass 3 cm long.

    - Place the tip of the compass at 

      point A and make an arc as shown 

      in the second figure in step 3.

    - This arc has to intersect the previous

     arc.

     

        

4.- Label the intersection of the two arcs 

      as (C).

      Connect points A and  B to point C

      with a straight line.
